Adult Education

Orthodox education classes are scheduled as needed. Special talks and classes may be scheduled throughout the year. Check the weekly bulletin or parish calendar for news and updates.

Church Music

Prayerfully leads the congregation in worship with the reading and chanting of liturgical services, including baptisms, weddings and funerals; assists the church in maintaining liturgical books.

Greek Festival

Our parish community puts on the 3-day Alaska Greek Festival each August, inviting Anchorage (and beyond) to enjoy our Greek food and culture.

Greek Dancing

Holy Transfiguration Hellenic Dancers, founded in 1985, is a ministry that has been developed to reinforce the ties between the cultural and spiritual values of our Greek Orthodox tradition. These youth dancers range in age from 6 to 18 and consist of three groups: Vorio Sellas (Northern Lights), Asteria tou Vora (Stars of the North), and Asterakia tou Vora (Little Stars of the North). The dancers have performed for numerous Anchorage organizations and events, as well as performing annually at our Greek Festival in August. They have traveled to California and Arizona six times to participate in the Metropolis Greek Orthodox Folk Dance and Choral Festival, where they have received awards for dance, choral and costume.

Parish Council

Elected each winter, members commit to a 2-yr term, serving on rotation on Sunday mornings and meeting monthly to prayerfully guide parish decision-making.

St. Irene Philoptochos

Philoptochos, meaning “friend of the poor”, organizes ongoing almsgiving and service opportunities for members or the parish as well as the greater Anchorage community.

Stewardship
Margaret V.
Facilitates annual stewardship campaign, educates about the focus and themes of Christian Stewardship, sends quarterly statements and answers questions regarding stewardship.

Sunday School

Provides weekly Faith education for children from preschool through fifth grade.
